Opener Ishan Kishan’s rapid 61 off 24 balls propelled defending champions India to a total of 209-9 against Namibia in a T20 World Cup warm-up match. India, batting first, got off to a strong start led by Sanju Samson’s quick 22 off 8 balls and aggressive hitting from Kishan. Hardik Pandya’s brisk 52 off 28 deliveries added crucial runs towards the end of the innings despite Namibia’s bowlers, particularly Gerhard Erasmus with figures of 4-20, making a comeback.
Although Samson was dismissed after his brisk start, Kishan continued to dominate, smashing four sixes and a four off JJ Smit to reach his fifty in just 20 balls. India reached the 100-run mark in the seventh over before Erasmus removed Kishan with a well-timed delivery. Namibia’s spinners, especially Bernard Scholtz and Erasmus, troubled the Indian middle order, taking key wickets.
Pandya and Shivam Dube then steadied the innings, forming an 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Pandya’s dismissal, caught brilliantly by substitute fielder Dylan Leicher near the boundary, marked a turning point as India lost quick wickets towards the end. The minnows Namibia made a strong statement with their performance.
After a victory over the United States in their first match, India is set to face arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly anticipated clash on Sunday. The much-awaited match, originally in doubt due to political tensions, is now confirmed following the Pakistan government’s decision to lift the boycott order.
