The United States has committed $2 billion for United Nations humanitarian aid in 2026, a reduced amount compared to previous years, with a clear message to UN agencies to adjust their operations. The announcement was made at the US mission in Geneva in collaboration with UN aid chief Tom Fletcher. This shift in funding strategy signifies a significant change in how the US supports UN humanitarian efforts. Rather than dispersing funds directly to various agencies, the United States will channel its contributions through the UN aid agency OCHA, led by Fletcher. OCHA initiated a Humanitarian Reset earlier this year to enhance efficiency and transparency. The allocated US funds, which have been well-received by the UN chief, will be directed to 17 specific countries.
