A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck central Sulawesi, Indonesia, causing injuries to numerous individuals. The disaster mitigation agency of the country, BNPB, reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles) and mainly affected the Poso Regency, with tremors felt in surrounding areas. According to BNPB, twenty-nine people sustained injuries, with two in critical condition. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fatalities as of now.
Indonesia, located in the seismically active “Pacific Ring of Fire”, experiences frequent earthquakes due to the convergence of tectonic plates beneath the Earth’s surface.
