US representative Tom Barrack urged Israel to uphold its obligations from a ceasefire that concluded its conflict with Hezbollah, as the Lebanese government initiated actions to disarm the militant organization. Barrack, after meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut, emphasized the importance of Israel’s compliance, stating that Lebanon has taken the initial step.
As per the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached in November, Hezbollah was expected to remove its fighters from the Israeli border, ensuring that all weapons come under the authority of the Lebanese government. On the other hand, Israel was required to entirely withdraw its forces from Lebanon, though it has maintained troops at five strategic border locations.
