Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto made changes to his cabinet by replacing Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati in response to widespread anti-government demonstrations. Sri Mulyani, a prominent figure with a background at the World Bank and prior experience as finance minister in multiple administrations, had her residence vandalized during the recent unrest tied to criticisms of legislative privileges.
Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, an economist and former head of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, was named as the new finance minister through a presidential decree. The police reported that close to 600 individuals remain under arrest in connection with the protests.
Prabowo did not provide a specific explanation for Sri Mulyani’s dismissal from the cabinet.
