Suspect in Sharif Osman Hadi Murder Case on Remand

-

A suspect related to the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho and a prominent youth leader, was placed on a five-day remand by a Dhaka court. The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid.

The remand prayer stated that the suspect, identified as Aminul, had contacted a suspected human trafficker named Philip Snal from Haluaghat in Mymensingh through a close relative after the shooting incident. Aminul allegedly provided money to assist the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, and his associate in fleeing to the border area.

Sharif Osman Hadi, who was also a candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming elections, was fatally shot in the head on December 12 and later succumbed to his injuries in a Singapore hospital on December 18.

Investigators revealed that Aminul is said to be a relative of Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappy, a former councillor of DNCC Ward-6 and an organizing secretary of Dhaka City North Jubo League. It was alleged that Bappy instructed Aminul to contact Philip after the shooting, following which Aminul sent Tk 5,000 to Philip as directed.

In a separate development, police detained Himon Rahman Shikdar, a 32-year-old associate of Alamgir, who was reportedly the motorcycle rider during the attack, from a hotel in Adabor. Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant commissioner of DMP, mentioned that based on Himon’s disclosures, law enforcement officers recovered a foreign-manufactured pistol and three rounds of ammunition in Adabor.

Abdullah noted, “Himon is an active member of Jubo League in Adabor. We anticipate that his interrogation will provide leads on the whereabouts of Alamgir and other individuals involved in the case.”
