Several new movies are set to premiere during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, including titles like “Prince,” “Domm,” “Rakkhosh,” “Bonolota Express,” and “Pinik.” The lineup has now been expanded to include “Bonolata Sen.”
Director Masud Hasan Ujjal initially intended to launch “Bonolata Sen” in 2024 but decided to delay the release due to prevailing circumstances in the country. The movie is now confirmed to hit theaters in the coming year, with a specific release date scheduled for Eid-ul-Fitr.
The film, which received funding from the government, draws inspiration from the fictional character Bonolata Sen, a creation of poet Jibanananda Das. Masuma Rahman Nabila landed the lead role after a rigorous audition process, expressing interest solely in portraying Bonolata Sen.
Apart from Nabila, the cast includes Khairul Basar as Jibanananda Das, and performances by Sohel Mondol, Naziba Basher, Priyonti Urbee, Ruponti Akid, Sharif Siraj, and Sumaiya Khushi.
“Bonolata Sen” secured a government grant of Tk 70 lakh in the fiscal year 2021–22. Director Ujjal emphasized the meticulous effort put into the film’s production, citing the importance of research, preparation, and selecting the right actors.
According to Ujjal, working on a project related to Jibanananda Das required a high level of commitment and attention to detail. The team dedicated extensive time to rehearsals, with special emphasis on production design to bring the envisioned visual world to life.
The director revealed plans to release “Bonolata Sen” during Eid-ul-Fitr 2026, with promotional campaigns expected to kick off soon through an official announcement.
