A video surfaced today depicting a group of individuals pursuing and assaulting a man in the Paltan region of Dhaka. The footage captured the group chasing and attacking the man, shouting, “Baul dhor, baul dhor” (catch the baul). However, law enforcement clarified that the man was not a baul performer but a thief involved in stealing phones.
According to Atiquzzaman, a sub-inspector at Paltan Police Station, a group initiated a procession from Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Friday prayers. The procession traversed several streets before concluding with a brief gathering in front of Paltan Tower.
“During the gathering, three individuals reportedly made an attempt to pilfer mobile phones from the participants. The attendees noticed the theft and pursued the suspects,” stated the sub-inspector.
“Two suspects managed to escape, while one was apprehended after a short pursuit. The police intervened, rescued the man, and took him to the police station,” he continued.
The man was identified as Faruk Haque, aged 40, originally from Jajira in Shariatpur but presently residing in Khilgaon area of Dhaka, as confirmed by the police.
