A man named Md Mohsin Kazi, aged 45, has been sentenced to death by a Barguna court for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old school student in Betagi upazila last year. The verdict was announced by Judge Begum Lailatul Ferdous of Barguna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal. The incident took place on September 16, 2024, when Mohsin reportedly raped the girl at knifepoint. The victim disclosed the assault to her family, leading to her mother filing a legal case against Mohsin. Following a thorough examination of evidence and witness testimonies, the court issued the death sentence today.
Special Public Prosecutor Ranjuara Sipu expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that they have achieved justice and are optimistic that such severe crimes will be deterred in society. On the other hand, the defendant’s attorney, Advocate Tariqul Islam, announced plans to appeal the ruling in the High Court.
