“Iconic ‘Mummy’ Actor Arnold Vosloo Joins Vijay Deverakonda’s Period Drama”

-

South African-American actor Arnold Vosloo, renowned globally for his iconic portrayal of Imhotep in the 1999 film “The Mummy,” has recently joined the filming of Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming historical drama under the direction of Rahul Sankrityan.

A publicist shared a photo of the Hollywood actor on set, capturing Vosloo casually standing next to a crew member by a row of vanity vans. Alongside the image, a caption read: “#VD14 | Vijay Deverakonda – Rahul Sankrityan. South African star Arnold Vosloo, known for his role in ‘The Mummy,’ joins the film.”

The post quickly gained traction on social media platforms, particularly Reddit, where fans expressed a mix of nostalgia and enthusiasm from their childhood memories. One Reddit user remarked, “If someone had told my younger self that he would act in movies in my language, I would have never believed it.” Another shared, “I used to be scared of him back then.” Some users playfully chanted “Imhotep” or humorously referenced “Mummy returns.”

Regarding the movie itself, tentatively titled “VD 14,” it is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers and signifies Deverakonda’s second collaboration with Rahul Sankrityan following their work on the 2018 film “Taxiwaala.” Set against the backdrop of British colonial rule in India between 1854 and 1878, the narrative is inspired by historical events.

Deverakonda’s initial poster release, unveiled on his birthday, showcased him as a contemplative warrior expected to portray a horseman from Rayalaseema. While the complete cast is yet to be disclosed, industry talk hints at Vosloo potentially embodying a British officer and potentially the film’s antagonist. Speculation also surrounds the possible inclusion of Rashmika Mandanna in the project, although no official confirmation has been made.

Further specifics, such as the official title and additional cast members, are anticipated to emerge in the forthcoming months.
