“Maritime Ports on Alert: Deep Depression in Bay of Bengal”

-

Maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to maintain distant cautionary signal No 1 as a depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal and neighboring Sri Lanka coast has developed into a deep depression in the same region. The deep depression, as reported in a recent bulletin by the Met office, was located at 9:00 am yesterday approximately 2,035 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,975 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,945 km southwest of Mongla port, and 1,930 km southwest of Payra port. Forecast suggests that it will track north-northwest and possibly escalate further.

With a maximum sustained wind speed of around 50 kph within a 48 km radius of the deep depression center, potentially reaching 60 kph in gusts or squalls, rough seas are expected in the vicinity of the deep depression. As a precautionary measure, all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay area are advised to refrain from venturing into the deep sea until further updates are provided.
