NCP Coordinator Patwary Urges Justice and Reform in Dhaka-8

-

Nasiruddin Patwary, the main coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), announced his focus on two crucial objectives within the Dhaka-8 constituency. One of these aims is to seek justice for the late Inqilab Moncho spokesperson, Osman Hadi, whose murder case remains unresolved in the legal system. Patwary, addressing the media following the allocation of his election symbol, emphasized the urgency for governmental and relevant authorities to promptly initiate and conclude the trial concerning Hadi’s assassination.

He also highlighted the second agenda, which is centered on realizing Hadi’s vision of establishing an “Insaaf-based Dhaka-8.” Patwary expressed the ambition to foster an Insaaf-based Bangladesh by combatting extortion, terrorism, and unlawful seizures to prevent tragedies like Hadi’s disappearance. The official launch of his campaign is scheduled for tomorrow, commencing with a visit to Hadi’s resting place.

Patwary affirmed his party’s commitment to a positive political transformation in Bangladesh post the widespread uprising, advocating for a departure from coercive and financially-driven politics in favor of fair and democratic electoral processes. Additionally, he brought attention to alleged biased actions by the Election Commission (EC) and administrative entities.

He specifically questioned the conduct of the returning officer regarding a recent visit by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to the Korail slum, where promises of constructing flats for fire-affected residents were reportedly made. Patwary criticized the EC for its perceived inaction towards Tarique Rahman while highlighting the issuance of a show-cause notice to NCP leader Nahid Islam for a similar incident.

In response to a show-cause notice served to him, Patwary discussed an incident involving a banner supporting the “Yes” vote in a referendum campaign without any electoral symbols. He claimed that the banner, which was removed by city corporation officials, BNP activists, and a magistrate, led to his notice. Patwary raised concerns regarding the collaboration between the administration and a political party, questioning the integrity of ensuring a free and fair electoral process.
