Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), a licensed partner of Starlink, has inked three separate deals to introduce Starlink internet services to primary and secondary schools in Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Rangamati. The primary aim is to bolster digital learning in the hilly regions, where numerous students face challenges accessing online education due to geographical constraints and poor connectivity.
As per the agreements with the hill district councils, schools in these areas will gradually receive Starlink terminals. Once the connections are live, students will gain access to online classes, digital resources, and virtual lessons through a reliable high-speed connection. Authorities believe this initiative will enable students in remote regions to engage in mainstream education despite geographical obstacles.
The government has consistently shown dedication to enhancing education in the hill tracts and integrating technology into classrooms. The recent agreements signify a significant stride in this direction. Starlink terminals have commenced deployment in multiple schools within the districts, with installation processes currently ongoing.
Key figures such as BSCL’s Managing Director and CEO, Muhammad Imadur Rahman, along with General Manager (Sales and Marketing) Shah Ahmedul Kabir, officials from the hill district councils, and project engineers, were present during the signing ceremonies. Rahman expressed optimism about the agreement’s potential impact, stating it presents new educational prospects in the hill regions and aligns with the government’s mission to enhance learning quality and foster a proficient generation through technological advancements.
Having obtained its operational license on April 29 this year, the satellite internet provider entered a three-month testing phase commencing from May 8. The official launch in Bangladesh was announced on May 20 via its X (formerly Twitter) account. Initially, 100 schools will receive terminals out of the targeted 450, with the district council offices covering the service expenses, as per BSCL.
