“Iran to Halt UN Nuclear Oversight Amid Sanctions Dispute”

-

Iran’s highest security authority declared that the efforts of Britain, France, and Germany to reinstate UN sanctions would lead to a halt in its collaboration with the UN nuclear oversight body. In a broadcast statement, the Supreme National Security Council stated, “Despite the foreign ministry’s engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the submission of resolution plans, the actions taken by European nations will effectively pause the cooperation with the agency.”

This announcement follows the Security Council’s decision on Friday to reinstate previously suspended UN sanctions, citing Iran’s non-compliance. The vote signifies that the sanctions, paused in exchange for limitations on Iran’s nuclear operations under the 2015 agreement, will be reinstated on September 28 unless Iran can convince the council to reconsider within the upcoming week.
