“Bangladeshi Candidate Issued Show-Cause Notice”

-

The returning officer for Dhaka-13 constituency has issued a show-cause notice to Maulana Md Mamunul Haque, a candidate from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, for allegedly violating electoral code of conduct before the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Mamunul has been given three days to provide a written explanation regarding the accusation of campaigning three weeks prior to the polling day, which goes against the code of conduct for political parties and candidates. The notice was sent by Dhaka-13 Returning Officer and Dhaka Regional Election Officer, Md Yunus Ali.

According to the notice, Mamunul allegedly distributed leaflets to the public outside the Election Commission building on January 12 around 5:00 pm, as reported by the media. In response, a press release from Khelfat Majlish today stated that Mamunul did not engage in any electoral campaign in front of the EC’s headquarters on that day, either for himself or any other candidate. The press release clarified that Mamunul was expressing his views and supporting the “Yes” vote for the referendum.

Mamunul emphasized in the statement that advocating for “Yes” or “No” in a referendum does not constitute election campaigning for any parliamentary candidate or symbol.
