“Apon Aloy: Tribute to Bangladeshi Lyricist Jangi”

A special event called “Apon Aloy Shahid Mahmud Jangi: Gane Gane Sattor” is scheduled for 12 December to honor the 70-year life and artistic journey of the esteemed Bangladeshi lyricist Shahid Mahmud Jangi. Jangi, a key figure in shaping the music scene of Bangladesh during the 1980s and 1990s, is celebrated for his classic compositions like “Hridoy kadamatir kono murti noy,” “Aaj je shishu prithibir aloy eshechhe,” “Ami bhule jai tumi amar now,” “Jotiner sirer klase,” “Tritiyo Bishwo,” and “Shomoy jeno kate na.” He is renowned for his work with iconic bands such as Souls, Renaissance, and LRB, along with various solo artists.

The event, organized by Ajob Karkhana, will be held at Russian House in Dhanmondi, commencing at 5 pm. It will kick off with introductory speeches and reminiscences from special guests, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative book titled “Apon Aloy Shahid Mahmud Jangi: Gane Gane Sattor,” edited by Joy Shahriar. The book features personal anecdotes and praises from prominent musicians including Nakib Khan, Samina Chowdhury, Faisal Siddiqui Bagi, Fuad Nasser Babu, Kumar Bishwajit, Pilu Khan, Nasim Ali Khan, Partha Barua, Liton Adhikari Rintu, Golam Morshed, and Bappi Khan.

The event will also include live renditions of Jangi’s timeless melodies starting from 6:30 pm. Performers such as Rafiqul Alam, Nasim Ali Khan, Bappa Mazumder, Pantho Kanai, Suman Kalyan, Joy Shahriar, Kishore Dash, and bands like Souls and Renaissance are set to showcase his iconic songs. The organizing team comprises Nakib Khan, Partha Barua, Pilu Khan, Joy Shahriar, Shamim Ahmed, Enam Elahi Tonti, Suman Kalyan, Shakil Khan, and Hasan Asad.
