Man Involved in Dhaka Drug Battle Dies from Gunshot

-

A man involved in a recent gun battle between two alleged drug trafficking factions in Dhaka’s Jurain neighborhood passed away early this morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) due to a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, identified as Shahin Bapari, 30, succumbed to his injuries around 1:00am, as confirmed by Mohammad Aiyub, the officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station.

Initially, authorities suspected Shahin was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. However, the OC clarified today to The Daily Star that Shahin was actually a member of one of the rival groups engaged in the shootout. Sub-Inspector Nayem Ahmed of Kadamtali Police Station had previously reported that the exchange of gunfire occurred at approximately 5:15pm in the Chairman Bari area of Jurain on Saturday, with initial beliefs suggesting Shahin was hit by a random bullet.

After the shooting, witnesses transported the wounded Shahin to DMCH in a rickshaw for urgent medical treatment.
