A fire that erupted at the warehouse of Standard Finish Oil Company Limited in the Shirirachala area of Gazipur’s Sadar upazila this afternoon has been successfully contained after a two and a half-hour effort. Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room Officer Anisur Rahman confirmed the containment of the fire around 2:55 pm.
Nine firefighting units from Joydevpur, Rajendrapur, and Sreepur stations collaborated to bring the blaze under control. The fire initiated at the warehouse around 12:30 pm, rapidly spreading and causing alarm among nearby residents. At 1:00 pm, Rabiul Islam, the duty officer of Rajendrapur Model Fire Service, informed The Daily Star that initial efforts by two fire service units were later reinforced by seven additional units.
No casualties have been reported thus far, as stated by Noor-e-Alam, the in-charge of the Rajendrapur Model Fire Service. Jihad Mia, the factory’s assistant manager, recounted, “We were in the midst of work when I suddenly noticed flames through the window. Everyone evacuated.” He mentioned that most workers were outside the factory during the lunch hour when the fire erupted.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
