“Ex-Inspector General’s Attorney Obtains Crucial Judgment”

-

Defense counsel representing former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun confirmed today that he has obtained the complete judgment relating to the crimes against humanity case in which Mamun was implicated and later turned into an approver. However, he refrained from disclosing the exact date when he acquired the document from the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

Earlier, on November 24, Mamun’s attorney, Jaiad Bin Amjad, informed The Daily Star that he was still waiting to receive the comprehensive judgment, despite submitting a request for a certified copy on November 18. The ICT-1 had pronounced a death penalty for deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who were also involved in the same case, on November 17.

In contrast, Mamun was handed a five-year prison sentence. When asked if he planned to challenge his client’s verdict, Jaiad informed The Daily Star that he has yet to obtain approval from Mamun’s family. He added, “I will make a decision after discussing with Mamun’s family.”
