-

Activists affiliated with the prohibited groups Chhatra League and Jubo League staged a parade this morning in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj in the presence of police officers who reportedly did not intervene. Sub-Inspector Md Kamruzzaman, who was at the scene, has been suspended as a result of the incident, while constables Md Shafik and Md Badsha have been reassigned to the district police lines, according to Sirajdikhan Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique, as reported by The Daily Star. The procession took place at around 9:00 am in the Imamganj Bazar area of Basail union to express support for the Awami League’s shutdown initiative following the sentencing of Sheikh Hasina to death. A video of the demonstration, featuring approximately 25-30 activists chanting slogans and carrying banners with the labels “Sirajdikhan Upazila Awami Jubo League” and “Munshiganj District Chhatra League”, circulated widely on social media, sparking extensive discussions and criticisms. OC Abu Bakar of Sirajdikhan mentioned that the officers faced repercussions due to allegations that they could have apprehended the protesters on the spot but failed to do so. Subsequently, police detained three individuals who participated in the procession: Mokbul Hossain Dewan, 54, the president of Malkhanagar union Jubo League, as well as Md Sohel Sheikh, 35, and Montu Bhuiya, 30. Legal measures are being taken against the detainees, he confirmed.
