“Dhakaiya Devdas: Love Story of Old Dhaka Unveiled”

-

The launch event for the movie “Dhakaiya Devdas” is scheduled to take place today at a club in Dhaka, officially kicking off the project featuring the renowned onscreen pair Ador Azad and Shobnom Bubly. The film is set in the culturally rich setting of Old Dhaka, weaving together centuries-old traditions, community values, and heritage within a contemporary love story. While filming has not yet commenced, the production team has announced that shooting for “Dhakaiya Devdas” is set to begin in January during the lively Shakrain festival. The movie plans to capture the authentic essence of Old Dhaka through various scenes shot at real locations in the area.

Director Zahid Hossain expressed that “Dhakaiya Devdas” primarily revolves around a love story aiming to showcase the ancient heritage of Old Dhaka through the journey of two individuals. The district is known for its diverse mix of religions, cultures, and traditions where festivals like Shakrain, Eid, Muharram, and Pahela Baishakh are joyously celebrated. Many of these customs and practices are unfamiliar to the present generation.

Explaining the significance of the title “Dhakaiya Devdas,” Hossain clarified that the term ‘Devdas’ is used metaphorically to represent individuals experiencing heartbreak, akin to the protagonist of the story who starts identifying with the character, thus inspiring the movie title.

This movie marks the fourth collaboration between Ador Azad and Shobnom Bubly, who debuted together on the big screen in 2022 with “Talash,” followed by “Local” in 2023. In the previous year, they starred in Zahid Jewel’s “Pinik,” which is still awaiting release. The film is being produced and distributed by Excel Films and Revolution Movies International, featuring a cast that includes Tariq Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Rashed Mamun Apu alongside the lead actors.
