“Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team Seeks Pay Parity”

-

The women’s section of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to propose a raise in daily allowances and tour fees for the national women’s cricket team to bridge the gap with their male counterparts. The chairman of the BCB women’s wing, Abdur Razzak, mentioned that the formal proposal is yet to be presented at the upcoming board meeting but aims to align the allowances for women’s team members with those of the men’s team.

Currently, male national team players receive a day allowance of USD 75 and a tour fee of USD 50 per day during international tours. In contrast, female players receive USD 50 and USD 25, respectively, except for ICC and ACC events. The proposal, which originated from BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul and director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim in their previous term, is anticipated to be tabled for approval at the forthcoming board of directors’ meeting.

In addition to the increment in allowances, the BCB is contemplating raising match fees for the women’s team. Presently, female players earn Tk one lakh for Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs) and Tk 50 thousand for Women’s T20 Internationals (WT20Is), while male players receive Tk eight lakh, Tk four lakh, and Tk 2.5 lakh for Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), respectively.

Razzak, a former national selector, acknowledged that achieving full parity may not be feasible immediately but affirmed that incremental increases will be implemented over time to address the disparity.
