“Dhaka University Explores Temporary Housing in Uttara for Students”

Dhaka University (DU) has initiated the evaluation of potential temporary housing options in Diabari, Uttara, for students who may need to be relocated during the upcoming construction and renovation of halls, as per an announcement by the university’s Public Relations Office on Wednesday. This step forms part of the university’s wider effort to tackle the persistent housing shortage on campus due to new hall construction and ongoing dormitory refurbishments.

A delegation comprising senior officials visited the housing area in Uttara to assess various aspects such as infrastructure, security measures, transportation accessibility, and overall suitability for accommodating students temporarily. The team included DU Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Bridges Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf, former Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division Dr KM Kabirul Islam, DU Director of Accounts Mohammad Saiful Islam, Acting Chief Engineer Kazi Md Akram Hosen, Acting Estate Manager Fatema Binte Mustafa, and Transport Manager Md Kamrul Hasan.

Additionally, Ducsu Vice President Abu Shadik Kayem, Assistant General Secretary Mohiuddin Khan, and Student Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah were also part of the delegation. The notification mentioned that a final decision regarding the suitability of the Uttara facilities would be made following a comprehensive evaluation of the inspected structures.
