“Wild Elephant Found Dead in Cox’s Bazar Farmland”

-

An adult male wild elephant, approximately 40 years old, was discovered deceased yesterday in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Syed Hamza, a local union parishad member, reported that residents first noticed the deceased elephant yesterday morning and promptly alerted the Forest Department.

Forest Department officials successfully retrieved the elephant’s carcass from a farmland in Rajapalang union during the morning hours. Abdul Mannan, Ukhiya range officer, suggested that the elephant likely perished after being ensnared in an active electric trap.

Dochhari Beat Officer Emdadul Haque Rony mentioned that certain farmers have been employing unlawful electric traps to deter wild elephants and safeguard their crops. The Forest Department disclosed that a total of five elephants have died in Ukhiya and Teknaf since the beginning of the year.
