Harry Kane scored a goal and assisted another as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Bundesliga’s Klassiker, maintaining their flawless start to the season with a seventh consecutive victory.
The defending champions faced a tough challenge in the second half from Dortmund but secured their 11th win in 11 matches this season across all competitions. Bayern leads the Bundesliga with 21 points, holding a five-point lead over second-placed RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, Dortmund dropped to fourth place with 14 points after suffering their first defeat in 10 matches.
The victory also marked a milestone for Bayern’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who achieved a record 363rd Bundesliga win.
“This win was crucial,” stated Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich. “We performed well in the first half, but Dortmund improved after the break and created some good opportunities. They scored a well-executed goal.”
“Although we weren’t at our peak in the second half, we fought hard, securing a significant victory for the team. It’s evident that we are a tough team to beat right now.”
Harry Kane, the standout player of the match, opened the scoring with a header from a Joshua Kimmich corner in the 22nd minute, marking his 12th league goal in seven matches. Kane has now netted a total of 22 goals in 14 appearances for both club and country this season.
Despite a lackluster first half performance, Dortmund attempted a comeback in the second half, with Felix Nmecha and Karim Adeyemi coming close to scoring. However, it was Kane’s brilliant 60-meter pass to Luis Diaz that led to Michael Olise sealing the victory for Bayern in the 79th minute.
Julian Brandt managed to pull one back for Dortmund with a tap-in five minutes later, intensifying the late-game pressure from the visitors.
