Elon Musk’s venture, Neuralink, is gearing up for “high-volume production” of its brain implants and the shift to a fully automated surgical process by 2026, according to a recent update from Musk. The purpose of these implants is to aid individuals with conditions such as spinal cord injuries. A report from Reuters reveals that the company’s initial patient has successfully utilized the device to manage a computer cursor, engage in video games, surf the web, and interact on social platforms.
Neuralink initiated human trials in 2024 following the resolution of safety concerns raised by the US Food and Drug Administration, which had previously declined the company’s application in 2022. By September 2025, Neuralink announced that 12 individuals worldwide suffering from severe paralysis had received and were actively using the implants to operate digital and physical devices, as per Reuters. Additionally, the company secured $650 million in funding during a fundraising round conducted in June.
