After receiving accolades at various international film festivals including London, Chicago, Melbourne, Rome, and Mumbai, the highly anticipated movie “Barir Naam Shahana” is scheduled for a premiere in Bangladesh on September 19, as confirmed by director Leesa Gazi. This marks Gazi’s entry into the realm of feature filmmaking.
Expressing her excitement, the director mentioned, “This movie represents my inaugural venture into creating a full-length narrative film. It aims not to dwell on despair but to highlight the essence of life and resilience.”
Drawing inspiration from real-life incidents, the film narrates the aspirations and challenges of a woman determined to carve her own path. Set against the backdrop of a conservative small town in the 1990s, the storyline revolves around Deepa, who, compelled by family expectations, agrees to an arranged marriage with a widower residing in England following a rebellious act in her teenage years. Venturing alone to London, she is confronted with a reality more severe than she had envisioned.
Jointly produced by Gupi Bagha Productions Limited and Komola Collective, “Bari’r Naam Shahana” features Anan Siddiqua portraying the character of Deepa, alongside stellar performances by Lutfor Rahman George, Iresh Zaker, Kazi Ruma, and Kamrunnahar Muni, among a talented ensemble cast.
