Five citizens of Bangladesh, including a married couple, arrived back in their home country via the Benapole check-post last night following a three-year imprisonment in India. The individuals were officially transferred to the Benapole Immigration Police by Indian immigration authorities using travel permits issued by both nations’ governments.
The returning individuals are identified as Ruhul Mallik from Ranagati village in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore; Masum Molla from Mulakandi village in Naria upazila in Shariatpur; Roni from Purba Sonai village in Fatikchhari, Chattogram; Roni’s spouse, Nazma Bibi; and Shankar Kumar from Golna village under Dumuria upazila in Khulna.
Immigration officials reported that the individuals had unlawfully entered India on separate occasions, enticed by human traffickers promising better job opportunities. Subsequently, they were apprehended by Dum Dum police and incarcerated. Upon serving their sentences, both the Indian and Bangladeshi ministries of foreign and home affairs sanctioned their return through travel permits.
SM Shakhawat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police, confirmed that the returnees were transferred to the Benapole Port Police upon completion of formalities. Subsequently, the non-governmental organization Justice and Care took charge of their safe reintegration.
Md Shafiqul Islam, a field facilitator of the organization in Jashore, mentioned that the returnees are scheduled to reunite with their families today.
