Actor-Musician Anirban Bhattacharya’s Band Provokes Debate

-

Acclaimed actor-musician Anirban Bhattacharya is making waves in the music scene with his band “Hooliganism”. Following the success of their hit “Melar Gaan”, the band has released a new track titled “Pujar Gaan” for Durga Puja. This thought-provoking song, co-written by Anirban, Shubhodip, and Gopinath, raises questions about Goddess Durga’s silence in the face of injustice, resonating widely with listeners.

Anirban’s musical success continues to soar with his recent viral hit “Tumi Masti Korbe Jani”, a satirical take on prominent figures in West Bengal politics. These back-to-back successes have propelled Anirban and his band into the cultural limelight.

However, while his music career flourishes, Anirban’s acting endeavors are facing challenges. A dispute between the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) and directors has led to a standstill in his acting projects. Anirban revealed earlier that he has not received any new offers, casting doubt on his highly anticipated role as Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in an upcoming film.

Director Srijit Mukherji has announced a historical drama titled “Emperor vs Sarat Chandra” to commemorate the centenary of Sarat Chandra’s influential novel “Pather Dabi”. Despite discussions for Anirban to portray Sarat Chandra, the director has expressed uncertainty due to the ongoing deadlock with the federation.

Producer Rana Sarkar has acknowledged the speculations surrounding Anirban’s involvement in the film, emphasizing that final decisions hinge on the federation’s approval. “Pather Dabi”, known for its anti-colonial stance that led to its ban in 1927, will be portrayed on screen, capturing the political unrest of the era. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 1 May 2026, promising to delve into the novel’s controversial history and revolutionary themes.
