-

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus met with a Canadian parliamentary delegation and highlighted that Bangladesh is gearing up for a significant national election, labeling it a pivotal moment for the nation. He emphasized the country’s evolution post a youth-led uprising and the upcoming election’s historical significance.

During the meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna, Canadian Senator Salma Ataullahjan, and MPs Salma Zahid and Sameer Zuberi engaged in discussions with Prof Yunus on enhancing trade relations and addressing the Rohingya crisis. Prof Yunus provided insights into the ongoing reforms and the preparations for the upcoming February polls while expressing gratitude to Canada for its assistance to the displaced Rohingya population.

Prof Yunus stressed the urgency of facilitating the return of the Rohingya to their homeland as the most feasible resolution, given that approximately 1.2 million Rohingya individuals are currently residing in Bangladesh. He also highlighted the escalating severity of the crisis due to financial constraints faced by the nation.

Senator Ataullahjan reiterated Canada’s unwavering support for the displaced Rohingya community, as confirmed by the chief adviser’s press office.
