An official’s wife was taken into custody by the police following allegations of her involvement in the deaths of eight puppies in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, as reported last night.
The woman, identified as Nishi Rahman and married to a staff member of the Ishwardi Upazila Small Farmers Development Foundation, was apprehended at a residence located in Ishwardi municipality headquarters.
The case was registered by Ishwardi Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun under Section 7 of the Animal Welfare Act, 2019, in connection with the incident.
She stands accused of the reported killing of eight newly born puppies within the Ishwardi Upazila Parishad premises a few days back, a distressing event that gained widespread attention on social media platforms and in conventional news outlets.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court for further legal proceedings today.
Pranab Kumar, the Additional Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ishwardi Circle, verified the formal lodging of the complaint.
Prior to her arrest, the implicated official and his family vacated their government residence following instructions to leave the premises amidst the controversy.
Addressing the media earlier, the woman accused of the act refuted the allegations of causing harm to the puppies, stating that she had simply relocated them to ensure the safety of her children.
