CID Charges Beximco Vice Chairman in $97M Money Laundering Scheme

-

The CID has uncovered evidence indicating that Salman F Rahman, Vice Chairman of Beximco Group, along with 17 related corporate entities, engaged in the transfer of nearly USD 97 million (approximately Tk 1,200 crore) overseas under the pretext of foreign trade. CID Chief Sibgat Ullah confirmed during a press briefing at the CID Headquarters in Malibagh, Dhaka, that the Financial Crime Unit has been authorized to file charge sheets in 17 money laundering cases lodged with Motijheel Police Station on September 17 and 18, 2024. The cases involve Salman F Rahman, Beximco Group Chairman ASF Rahman, and various associates, under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

The approved charge sheets list 28 individuals and 19 entities. Salman F Rahman, currently in custody, has been apprehended in connection with these cases. Wasiur Rahman, the managing director and shareholder of Autumn Loop Apparels Limited, was previously arrested by the CID in July 2025.

The CID’s investigation revealed that from 2020 to 2024, the accused conducted illicit financial transactions abroad through 17 corporate entities, including Adventure Garments, Apollo Apparels, Autumn Loop Apparels, Bextex Garments, Cosmopolitan Apparels, Cozy Apparels, Esses Fashion, International Knitwear and Apparels, Kanchpur Apparels, Midwest Garments, Peerless Garments, Pink Maker Garments, Platinum Garments, Skynet Apparels, Springful Apparels, Urban Fashions, and Winter Sprint Garments Limited.

It was found that these companies initiated letters of credit (LCs) or sales agreements through Janata Bank PLC’s Motijheel branch but did not repatriate earnings from exports to Bangladesh. Instead, the funds were channeled through RR Global Trading in Dubai to various destinations, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UK, the USA, Ireland, and other countries. RR Global Trading is owned by Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman, son of Salman F Rahman, and Ahmed Shahriar Rahman, son of ASF Rahman.

In compliance with court directives, the CID has seized substantial assets belonging to the accused, such as 2,000 decimals of land and properties in Dohar, Dhaka, a 6,189 sqft apartment in Gulshan’s “The Envoy” complex, and a 2,713 sqft triplex apartment, also in Gulshan. Multiple bank accounts have been frozen, and travel restrictions imposed. The current market value of the confiscated assets is estimated to be between Tk 600-700 crore.

CID officials reported that the Financial Crime Unit efficiently processed all necessary paperwork and filed charge sheets in all 17 cases promptly, notwithstanding the intricate nature of investigations into trade-related money laundering.
