Faridpur police have reported that three individuals captured in Bhanga were transported from Mirpur in Dhaka to produce petrol bombs following the directives of a local Jubo League member named Murad Khan, who allegedly served as the gunman for former lawmaker Nixon Chowdhury. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdul Jalil disclosed this information during a press conference at Bhanga Police Station after the apprehension of the trio in possession of crude bombs, petrol bombs, and materials for bomb-making.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement conducted a raid at a residence in Brahmanpara village within Azimnagar union of Bhanga upazila between 2:00 pm and 3:15 pm the previous day, where the three suspects were caught in the act of creating petrol bombs. The police discovered a significant cache of incendiary devices and related items at the scene, including various types of bottles, tapes, chemicals, matchboxes, threads, gunpowder, and other explosive materials.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Hossain Raj from Mirpur, Dhaka; Ahmadul Rashid alias Rakib from Matlab upazila in Chandpur; and Jewel Rana from Dharmapasha in Sunamganj. SP Jalil stated that the suspects were planning to engage in subversive activities around the time of the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict announcement in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity, as well as during the “lockdown” program initiated by the banned Awami League and its associated factions.
Describing their actions as “anti-government” and “anti-state,” SP Jalil mentioned that legal measures, including the initiation of a case and preliminary investigations, are currently in progress, with efforts underway to apprehend the mastermind behind the operation. Additional law enforcement officials, including ASP Md Asif Mahmud, Inspector Indrajit Mallik, and Sub-Inspectors Afzal Hossain, Md Mosharaf Hossain, and Sakratul, were also present during the press briefing.
