Centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal propelled India to a commanding 53-run victory over New Zealand, securing their spot in the Women’s World Cup semi-finals. The defending champions Australia, England, and South Africa have also advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Mandhana and Rawal, opening for India, put on a remarkable 212-run partnership as India posted a formidable total of 340-3 in 49 overs at the rain-affected DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Mandhana scored 109, while Rawal notched up 122, dominating the opposition bowlers with an array of boundaries.
New Zealand, in response, fell short at 271-8 while chasing a revised target of 325 in 44 overs, thus missing out on a semi-final berth with one match remaining. The White Ferns, led by Sophie Devine, faced unfortunate outcomes with two matches abandoned due to rain in Colombo.
India, after suffering three consecutive defeats, showcased a strong all-around performance to stay in contention for their first World Cup title. Mandhana and Rawal’s exceptional partnership, the highest for India in a women’s ODI World Cup match, steered the game away from New Zealand.
Mandhana achieved her fifth century in 2025, leveling with South Africa’s Tazmin Brits for the most tons in women’s ODI matches in a calendar year. Rawal, after Mandhana’s dismissal, continued the momentum with Jemimah Rodrigues, who remained unbeaten on 76, contributing to India’s commanding total.
Despite rain interruptions and a delayed start to New Zealand’s innings, India maintained control throughout the match. While New Zealand’s late resistance was led by Brooke Halliday (81) and Isabella Gaze (65*), the required run rate always favored India, ensuring their victory and semi-final qualification.
