Coke Studio Bangla has unveiled the sixth song of Season 3, titled “Moha Jadu,” featuring a unique collaboration between Bangladeshi music producer Habib Wahid and Tajikistani vocalist Mehrnigor Rustam for the first time.
The song merges Bangla folk elements with Persian poetry, incorporating verses from Khowaj Mia, a disciple of the mystic Durbin Shah. Habib Wahid’s arrangement combines Baul-inspired lyrics with electronic folk music, while Mehrnigor Rustam delivers Sufi-influenced Farsi verses.
The lyrics showcase a beautiful contrast – Rustam sings, “Eshghat khamusham kard” (“Your love has silenced me”), to which Wahid responds with “Amar bondhu moha jadu jane” (“My lover charms like a magician”).
The music video reflects this juxtaposition as Rustam appears in an elegant white ensemble, exuding grace, while Wahid, sporting sunglasses and a glittered jacket, sings behind his keyboard, adding his signature ‘Habib Wahid’ touch.
In addition to its visual presentation, the release underscores the deep cultural connections between Bengal and Persia. Persian was once the language of the Bengal court, leaving behind linguistic and cultural influences that continue to impact Bangla. “Moha Jadu” pays homage to this historical legacy by presenting it in a modern format tailored for a contemporary audience.
This song not only marks Habib Wahid’s debut on Coke Studio Bangla but also introduces Mehrnigor Rustam to Bangladeshi music enthusiasts, expanding the platform’s reach and furthering its exploration of regional and international collaborations.
