A clash erupted between law enforcement officers and residents in Chattogram on Sunday following the apprehension of an individual. The incident unfolded in the Ambagan area of Pahartali Ward No. 13, as confirmed by the police.
Sources within the police department revealed that a team from Khulshi Police conducted an operation in the vicinity which led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man named Babul. Eyewitnesses reported a confrontation ensued during the arrest attempt, resulting in a physical altercation. In response, a group of young locals barricaded the road, causing a one-hour disruption in traffic flow. Following assurances from senior police authorities for a thorough investigation, the roadblock was eventually lifted.
Khulshi Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Alam informed The Daily Star that Babul holds the position of president at Joy Bangla Parishad in Ambagan. OC Alam mentioned that Babul had prior affiliations with the Awami League at a community level and is currently facing allegations in a police case lodged against him.
“When the police moved to apprehend him, his relatives and community members impeded the process,” added OC Alam.
According to local informants, Babul was previously linked to Awami League activities but is currently an active supporter of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). However, the accuracy of this claim could not be verified independently.
