Homer Simpson is set to return to cinemas as Disney announces the release of a new “Simpsons” movie globally on July 23, 2027, marking twenty years since the original film premiered. The news was shared by 20th Century Studios on Instagram, featuring an image of Homer holding a donut shaped like the number “2” with the caption hinting at his return for a sequel.
While specific plot details are being kept secret, the movie’s debut date has replaced a previously planned Marvel film slot. Scheduled to go head-to-head with Warner Bros.’ “Bad Fairies,” the upcoming “Simpsons” feature will bring back the beloved voice talents of Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), and Yeardley Smith (Lisa).
Since its debut in 1989, Matt Groening’s “The Simpsons” has maintained its status as the longest-running scripted primetime series in US TV history, currently in its 37th season. The original 2007 movie, directed by David Silverman, amassed $536 million in global box office earnings, depicting Springfield under a dome following an incident caused by Homer.
