Russian Airstrikes in Ukraine Cause Deaths and Power Disruption

-

Russian airstrikes in Ukraine resulted in the deaths of five individuals and significant damage to energy infrastructure. This led to the temporary disruption of power to tens of thousands of residents and prompted Poland to heighten its ground defense readiness.

According to the Ukrainian air force, Russian forces deployed 496 drones and 53 missiles, with the majority being intercepted and destroyed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed condolences for the lives lost in the attacks.

The strikes claimed four lives in the western city of Lviv, which is far from the conflict zone and had previously seen limited attacks. Additionally, one person was killed in Zaporizhzhia in the south, and several others were injured near the eastern front.

The power outages affected over 110,000 customers in various regions, with Zaporizhzhia being the most severely impacted. Approximately 73,000 residents in Zaporizhzhia were left without electricity overnight, with partial restoration efforts underway by the afternoon.

Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state-owned gas company, reported damages to its infrastructure network. The Russian military claimed the airstrikes targeted military-industrial complexes and energy facilities supporting Ukraine’s operations.
