“Rain Delayed Toss Marks Bangladesh’s Final World Cup Match”

-

Bangladesh was put into bat by hosts India after losing the toss in their final ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The toss was delayed for about 30 minutes due to rain, but no overs were reduced. However, dark clouds reappeared after the toss, forcing the pitch to be covered again as rain resumed.

In a change for the match, Sumaiya Akter replaced Fargana Hoque in the Bangladesh team, while India’s Uma Chetry was set to make her debut. Bangladesh started their campaign with a win against Pakistan but have struggled since then, currently at the bottom of the table with two points from six matches.

Despite putting up a good fight against England and South Africa, Bangladesh failed to secure wins. In a disappointing match against Sri Lanka, they squandered a seemingly easy victory, needing just 12 runs from 12 balls with six wickets in hand but ended up losing by seven runs.

India secured a spot in the semifinals as the fourth team with a convincing win over New Zealand, making the current match a formality.

The playing XI for Bangladesh Women includes Sumaiya Akter, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akhter, Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana (c), Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, Nishita Akter Nishi, and Marufa Akter.

The playing XI for India Women comprises Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Deepti Sharma, Uma Chetry (w), Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Shree Charani, and Renuka Singh Thakur.
