“Jamaat-e-Islami Leaders Criticize BNP’s Democratic Departure”

-

BNP leaders are accused of straying from the democratic principles advocated by the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman, according to Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami. Taher criticized BNP for deviating from democratic practices and failing to grasp the public’s desire for reforms. He warned that if BNP continues its current political approach without understanding public sentiment, it may face a fate similar to that of the Awami League.

Addressing a discussion as the chief guest, Taher emphasized the need for a referendum before the national election. He stressed the importance of promptly conducting the referendum, asserting that delaying it with deceptive tactics serves no purpose. Taher accused those opposing a pre-election referendum of similar concerns that arose during student union elections, insinuating a conspiracy to obstruct polls at various universities.

Meanwhile, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar highlighted the potential crisis in the upcoming national polls if demands for a referendum are disregarded under political pressure. Porwar urged the government to swiftly implement the July charter and set a referendum date to avert any electoral turmoil.

During an election rally in Khulna’s Phultala upazila, a Jamaat leader expressed support for inter-party dialogues to address the current political impasse. The party welcomed the proposal for dialogue as a means to resolve the crisis effectively.
