Amazon MGM Studios has revealed “Alone at Dawn,” a fresh military drama helmed by Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard and featuring Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway in lead roles. The movie will debut in cinemas before becoming available for streaming on Amazon’s platform.
Inspired by the book “Alone at Dawn” penned by Dan Schilling and Lori Chapman Longfritz, the film chronicles the remarkable true story of Air Force Combat Controller John A. Chapman, who displayed extraordinary bravery in a life-threatening situation to protect his fellow soldiers. Following an intelligence officer’s investigation, Chapman was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Schilling, a former Combat Control Technician, provides expertise as a consultant, while Chapman Longfritz, who is Chapman’s sister, is also involved in the production.
The script for the film was crafted by Michael Russell Gunn, with additional revisions by Erin Cressida Wilson and Amy Herzog. Noteworthy production companies such as Imagine Entertainment, The Hideaway Entertainment, and Thruline Entertainment are backing the project.
The journey of bringing this compelling story to life on screen was as eventful as the narrative itself. The manuscript was initially secured by The Hideaway Entertainment after a fierce bidding war, eventually landing at Imagine Entertainment, where Ron Howard was tapped to direct. With Adam Driver, a former US Marine, already on board, the team diligently sought the perfect co-star, ultimately selecting Anne Hathaway after a successful meeting with Howard and the producers.
Ron Howard, renowned for his successful adaptations of real-life events in films like “Apollo 13” and “A Beautiful Mind,” which garnered critical acclaim and prestigious awards, including an Academy Award for Best Director, is known for his ability to bring compelling stories to the big screen. His recent collaboration with Amazon, “Thirteen Lives,” recounted the gripping 2018 Thai cave rescue.
Anne Hathaway is currently busy filming “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and has recently wrapped up filming for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” Her recent projects include “Mother’s Instinct,” co-starring Jessica Chastain, and “The Idea of You” for Amazon MGM Studios. Upcoming ventures for Hathaway include “Mother Mary,” “Verity,” and “The Princess Diaries 3.”
Adam Driver’s forthcoming projects include appearances in Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” and James Gray’s “Paper Tiger.” The accomplished actor, a two-time Oscar nominee, is widely recognized for his roles in “Marriage Story,” “BlacKkKlansman,” “Ferrari,” “House of Gucci,” and his portrayal of Kylo Ren in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy.
