Nathan Kiely, the strength and conditioning coach of the Bangladesh team, has resigned from his position due to personal reasons. Kiely stated that his decision to step down was a challenging one but necessary because of personal circumstances. He explained that the recent arrival of his first child, combined with the lack of immediate family support in Australia, led him to prioritize being with his family during this time.
Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricket operations, confirmed Kiely’s resignation, noting that they have received his official resignation letter. Fahim mentioned that Kiely cited the difficulty of leaving his newborn baby and wife behind as the main reason for his decision to resign.
Kiely, an Australian who started his two-year contract with the BCB on April 15 last year, had previously taken a leave during the Asia Cup to support his pregnant wife. In his absence, trainer Iftikhairul Islam has been working with the team. Kiely was not present during the recent bilateral series against Afghanistan in the UAE and the ongoing home series against West Indies.
During his tenure, Kiely introduced a new fitness assessment called the ‘time trail’ in Bangladesh cricket, replacing the traditional beep test or Yo-Yo Test. The time trail involves a 1600m race (4*400m) to evaluate the players’ fitness levels.
