In Chattogram on Monday, Bangladesh fell short by 16 runs against the West Indies in the first T20I of the three-match series. The top order crumbled early in the chase of 165 runs, with half the side dismissed for just 63 runs within nine overs. Despite a late fightback from the lower order, led by Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nasum Ahmed, Bangladesh could not recover and were bowled out for 149 in 19.4 overs.
West Indies skipper Shai Hope and Rovman Powell powered their team to 165 for three with a late surge, scoring 64 runs in the last five overs. Hope smashed 46 off 28 balls, while Powell contributed 44 off 28 deliveries. Taskin Ahmed was the standout bowler for Bangladesh with two wickets.
In the middle overs, Taskin Ahmed’s double-wicket over shifted the momentum in Bangladesh’s favor, but West Indies managed to reach a competitive total. The Tigers will look to bounce back in the next match of the series after a strong performance from the lower order despite the initial collapse.
