Juventus has terminated the contract of head coach Igor Tudor following a string of eight winless games across all competitions, the Serie A team disclosed on Monday. In an official statement, Juventus FC announced the dismissal of Igor Tudor as the head coach of the men’s first team, along with his coaching staff. Massimo Brambilla, the coach of the reserve team, will step in as the interim first team manager, the club confirmed.
Croatian manager Tudor, who took over from Thiago Motta in March, became the first foreign coach appointed by Juventus since Didier Deschamps in the 2006-07 season. Tudor, a former defender who spent a significant part of his playing career at Juventus, contributed to the team’s two Serie A titles and their appearance in the Champions League final.
During the previous season, Tudor guided Juventus to a fourth-place finish in Serie A, securing their spot in the Champions League. However, the team’s performance plummeted last month following an initial three-game winning streak, as they went on to draw five consecutive matches and suffer three losses in quick succession to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio.
Addressing the media after the defeat to Lazio, Tudor acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, stating, “I think we prepared for the match in the right way, but we’re still missing something. There’s no need to dramatize the situation; we’re all responsible for this difficult period.”
Currently, Juventus, who will face Udinese on Wednesday, have failed to find the net in their last four games and currently occupy the eighth spot in the Serie A standings, trailing league leaders Napoli by six points.
