Cricketer Shreyas Iyer Stable After Spleen Injury

-

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer is in a stable condition and has maintained communication with the team while in the hospital following a spleen injury, revealed India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday.

Iyer, aged 30, suffered the injury while taking a remarkable catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the third one-day international against Australia, a crucial moment in India’s nine-wicket victory in Sydney.

The vice-captain of the Indian ODI team had to leave the field and was subsequently hospitalized.

“Suryakumar mentioned that he has been in contact with Iyer for the past couple of days, and Iyer has been responsive,” stated Suryakumar to reporters before the team’s upcoming T20 match in Canberra on Wednesday.

According to Suryakumar, the situation is looking positive, and medical professionals will continue to monitor him for a few more days.

He further explained that doctors and physiotherapists have labeled the injury as “uncommon,” but expressed confidence in Iyer’s recovery, attributing it to his exceptional talent.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team is keeping a close watch on Iyer’s condition.

Notably, Iyer is not part of the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming series in Australia, which serves as preparation for the T20 World Cup slated for February-March in India and Sri Lanka.

Since his ODI debut in 2017, Iyer has amassed 2,917 runs from 73 matches at an impressive average of 47.81.
