Kyiv escalated its counterattacks against Russia with a Ukrainian airstrike hitting the Russia-controlled section of Ukraine’s Kherson region, resulting in four fatalities as reported by the appointed governor. The retaliatory action came as Moscow claimed to have thwarted 209 drones during the night and morning hours.
Governor Vladimir Saldo, overseeing the Russian-held area of Kherson region, disclosed that four civilians lost their lives in a deliberate drone strike directed at civilian vehicles on a highway. Additionally, one individual sustained injuries in a separate Ukrainian assault in the same region.
While Kyiv refrained from an immediate response, it refuted allegations of deliberately targeting civilians in the areas under Russian control. The Ukrainian capital has intensified its strikes on Russia’s energy and oil infrastructure, citing them as justified responses to Moscow’s relentless assaults on Ukrainian cities, leading to widespread disruptions in heating and power supply for millions of residents.
Ukraine reported that Russia had launched a total of 154 drones and missiles from Monday to Tuesday overnight, with approximately half of them intercepted.
