Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan expressed that the Sepoy-People’s Revolution of 1975 and the July Uprising of 2024 both stemmed from similar socio-political circumstances. Speaking at a roundtable event at the Jatiya Press Club commemorating the National Revolution and Solidarity Day, Asif Mahmud highlighted the parallels between these two significant movements. He emphasized that the failure to establish a fair and efficient state post-independence set the stage for both uprisings, attributing the events to corruption and exploitation by post-independence leadership.
Asif Mahmud underscored that Bangladesh’s transition into a well-functioning state commenced after 1975, marked by the establishment of institutions, military reinforcement, and active participation in regional politics, factors that remain pertinent today. Acknowledging the pivotal role of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Asif noted that Ziaur Rahman pioneered a politics centered on welfare and state building, with the nation continuing to operate based on the framework he established, evident in contemporary political and policy discussions.
The discussion at the event also delved into the evolving political landscape of Bangladesh and the actions of various political parties following the July Uprising.
