“Harry Kane Leads Bayern Munich to Record 14th Straight Win in German Cup”

-

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich made history with their 4-1 victory over Cologne in the German Cup second round, marking a record-breaking 14 consecutive wins to start a season in Europe.

Kane’s first goal, a remarkable curling shot, and a second-half header brought his total to 22 goals in 14 games this season.

Luis Diaz and Michael Olise also found the back of the net for the 20-time German Cup champions.

Ragnar Ache scored the opening goal for Cologne, putting Bayern behind for the first time this season.

Bayern’s win surpassed the previous record of 13 consecutive wins at the start of a season in all competitions set by Fabio Capello’s AC Milan in 1992-93, the former best mark in Europe’s top-five leagues.

England captain Kane, in top form, has recorded two hat-tricks and six braces during Bayern’s record-breaking streak, only failing to score in two of the 14 matches.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised Kane’s overall performance, noting the striker’s ability to create opportunities by dropping deep.

“At the end of the game, I asked someone if Harry scored today, and he said ‘yes, two goals’,” Kompany told Germany’s ARD. “Sometimes you don’t even notice it because of all the other contributions he makes to the team.”

In an earlier match, Bayer Leverkusen secured a 4-2 victory over a 10-man Paderborn with two goals scored after the 120-minute mark.

After a challenging night, 19-year-old Ibrahim Maza scored to save Leverkusen from going to penalties against their second-division opponents, who had been unbeaten since August.

Aleix Garcia added a final goal as Paderborn sought an equalizer.

During regulation time, Alejandro Grimaldo’s free-kick in the 60th minute for Leverkusen, his fourth dead-ball goal of the season, was equalized by Paderborn’s Stefano Marino in the 90th minute.

In extra time, Paderborn, reduced to 10 men earlier, took the lead through Sven Michel on 96 minutes, but former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah leveled the score before the extra-time break.

Last season’s winners, Leverkusen, will be joined in the last 16 by cup holders Stuttgart, who triumphed 2-0 over Mainz with goals from Luca Jaquez and captain Atakan Karazor.

Jaquez scored with a header early in the game, while Karazor found the net after a clever dummy by Germany midfielder Angelo Stiller fooled the home defense.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius had a difficult night as his Schalke team suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Darmstadt, another second-division side.

Joining the advancing teams are Union Berlin, Freiburg, Magdeburg, and Kaiserslautern, alongside Borussia Dortmund, Hertha Berlin, RB Leipzig, Hamburg, St Pauli, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Holstein Kiel, and Bochum in the last 16.
