The highly anticipated crime-thriller ‘Girgiti’ is all set to debut on Bongo on October 16, immersing viewers in the shady realm of the fictional town of Biralpur, where a deadly mix of drugs, power plays, and homicides unfolds.
Biralpur, once a bustling and orderly urban center, now finds itself engulfed in a web of illicit activities and lawlessness. The narrative kicks off with the brutal murders of three individuals employed by the influential tycoon Chowdhury, prompting detective Maruf Zaman to launch an investigation into the grim incidents. However, the plot thickens when a subsequent killing transpires within the precincts of the police station, leading Maruf to question the proximity of the perpetrator.
Crafted from a story by Rahat Mehedi Haque, with a screenplay penned by Jyotirmoy Roy and directed by Lashkar Niaz Mahmud, this five-episode series showcases Irfan Sajjad in the pivotal role of Maruf Zaman. The ensemble cast also includes Shatabdi Wadud, Nader Chowdhury, Ashish Khandakar, Mohana Meem, Golam Farida Chhanda, Milon Bhattacharya, and Sharif Siraj, among others.
Director Laskar Niaz Mahmud emphasized that “Girgiti” was meticulously shaped to exude realism and emotional depth. “While murder mysteries typically adhere to a conventional pattern — encompassing a crime, an inquiry, and a sleuth figure — from Sherlock Holmes to Feluda, we endeavored to infuse a sense of novelty through our narrative approach and visual style,” he explained. “Our aim was to narrate a compelling tale with sincerity and precision. The post-production phase took place at SK Studio in India, with editing overseen by Subhajit Singha.”
Furthermore, he underscored, “We opted to portray the characters not as extraordinary detectives or villains, but as individuals firmly rooted in reality. In addition to seasoned performers, we introduced a host of fresh talents — including a group of around a dozen individuals making their screen debut — whose on-screen portrayals are bound to captivate audiences.”
Lead actor Irfan Sajjad characterized the series as a riveting odyssey filled with psychological depth and suspense. “Just like a chameleon alters its hues, mysterious and unpredictable, our ‘Girgiti’ encapsulates that essence of transformation and enigma,” he remarked. “It’s a crime-thriller layered with emotion, intrigue, and the shadowy recesses of human behavior.”
