“Coalition of Eight Parties Unveils Five-Point Demands”

-

Leaders and activists from eight politically aligned parties who are jointly advocating for a five-point demand assembled at Dhaka’s Paltan intersection to deliver a memorandum to the chief adviser. The gathering, which commenced with processions from various locations earlier in the day, caused traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters in the vicinity. Prior to embarking on a mass procession towards the Chief Adviser’s Office, they intend to conduct a brief rally at the intersection.

Among the participating parties are Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan, Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), and Bangladesh Development Party. Following a meeting of senior leaders from these parties on Monday, Khilafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque unveiled the agenda during a press briefing. Mamunul emphasized the potential for resolving the political impasse through dialogue and asserted that the upcoming election should adhere to the legal framework outlined in the July National Charter.

Nevertheless, he cautioned that in the event of the government failing to address their demands, the coalition of eight parties plans to stage a protest rally in Dhaka on November 11. The five-point demands include the implementation of the July Charter through an order and conducting a referendum by November, the adoption of a proportional representation (PR) system for both legislative houses in the forthcoming national election, guaranteeing a fair electoral environment for all political entities, delivering visible justice for past regime-led injustices, and prohibiting the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
